The Basics

At The Lagree Method, we get a lot of questions about what Lagree fitness is and what our classes are like. Lagree fitness is becoming one of the fastest-growing and most popular workouts in the fitness industry as it combines both resistance training and cardio into one calorie-burning, low impact, high-intensity workout.

Today we are going to be going over the basics of a Lagree workout and what you can expect during class in order to prepare you for your first workout with us! If you have any other questions or are ready to sign up for your first class free at the Lagree Method in Dublin, give us a call today!

Lagree Fitness: The Basics

Lagree fitness was created by Sebastian Lagree, who is also the inventor of the Megaformer machine that is used during class. Derived from the practice of Pilates, Lagree fitness offers a unique twist on traditional exercises such as lunges, squats, planks, etc. while combining them with exercises that are specific to the Megaformer.

What to Expect During Class

Classes are typically 45 minutes long, and you will want to arrive at our studio at least 10 minutes prior to class starting so that we can give you an introduction to the Megaformer machine. The workout is performed wearing grippy socks, and while the machine may look like a lot, our instructors go into depth explaining each exercise as we go through them.

Lagree fitness is all about slow-twitch muscle fibers which are smaller in diameter than our fast-twitch muscle fibers. Working these muscle fibers helps with a wide range of activities including distance running, swimming, cycling, endurance training, and more. During class, one muscle group is worked at a time to achieve effective muscle stimulation with the goal of keeping the pace, slow, controlled, and steady. We also have the goal of wasting zero time during transitions, making Lagree the perfect high intensity, low impact workout.

The Megaformer

When you first enter our studio, you will likely be a bit confused about the contraption we use to perform our exercises on. The Megaformer comes in a variety of models that will vary depending on the studio that you go to, but the basic functions of each model are all the same. While the Megaformer is much better explained during the time of your class, we will jump into the basics of the machine in order to give you an idea of what you can expect.

First off, the middle of the machine is called the carriage which moves back and forth on a spring system. The more springs the more resistance there will be, meaning it will be harder to move the carriage away from the front platform. When there are less springs, it will be harder to move the carriage back towards the platform if we are resting our body weight on it. The red springs are about 7 pounds and the red are about 45 pounds each. Again, an in-person demonstration at the beginning of class will allow this information to make more sense if you are confused.

The carriage can be moved in a ton of different ways, making the Lagree workout method perfect for targeting many different muscle groups in many different ways. This is also ideal for those who are looking to change up their workout routine, as we are always working different muscles and doing fresh exercises in order to keep things new and interesting for both your brain and your body!
